Spirometry (Lung Function Test) is a common office test used for both pediatric and adult patients, to assess how well your lungs work by measuring how much air you inhale, how much you exhale and how quickly you exhale.
Spirometry is used to diagnose asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other conditions that affect breathing. Spirometry may also be used periodically to check whether a treatment for a chronic lung condition is helping you breathe better. Spirometry is typically done on the same day as your office appointment and is covered by most insurances. This is a non evasive test which requires you to blow into a device for a number of seconds to achieve the results.
There are several different spirometers, but not all meet the national certification requirements to achieve the highest quality standards.
Because spirometry has become so important in healthcare practice and is now mandatory in the Pediatric Guidelines, most insurance companies will only cover your spirometry test if it is certified.
Tottori Allergy & Asthma Associates proudly offers certified spirometry testing, based on current guidelines from the American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society (ATS/ERS), the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM), and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) (2–8).
Our goal is to provide the best technical quality equipment available for valid spirometer tests.
