Although allergies can be problematic year round for some patients, traditionally our valley’s heavy allergy season begins in March and runs through the end of May. However, in recent years the season has begun earlier and ended later.
During allergy season, common complaints are running nose, sneezing, itching and nasal congestion. Allergies may exacerbate other illnesses such as eczema, hives, asthma, fatigue and sinus infections. If possible, limit outdoor activities, during allergy season and monitor children for excessive coughing during the next few months.
For some patients, preventative medication during the next few months may be useful to minimize the symptoms allergy season may cause. For others, environmental controls such as driving with the car window closed and washing bedding and pets may be helpful during the next few months.
This time of year may be frustrating and stressful, but I wish you well and good health!!!
Regards,
Dr. David H. Tottori
